James Albert George Obituary

James Albert George, age 70, of Lindale, Texas, passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2021. Jim was born on Thursday, October 5, 1950, in Pontiac, Illinois. He grew up in Illinois and Florida, but moved to Texas in 1984. He was a resident and business owner in Lindale, Texas for 37 years. Jim loved the Lord Jesus Christ and was very active in his church.

He was saved in Vacation Bible School in Florida at 8 years old. Jim taught Junior Church for 23 years, the adult Sunday School class (Explorers), was a choir member, an usher, trustee, and a greeter at Woodland Baptist Church of Tyler. He shared the gospel and was a soul winner until death. Jim loved worldwide missions and contributed to many ministries in his lifetime.

He was a devoted family man, loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and devoted sisters. Jim enjoyed traveling with his wife and playing board games with anyone who visited him. He sold scooters and powerchairs for Electric Mobility Corporation over 30 years and was the top salesman in the nation for several years in the VA Division.

He was an humble man who did not want recognition for his achievements, instead giving the honor and glory to the Lord, who enabled him to be successful in business. With only a GED education, he was an entrepreneur in spirit. At one point in the 1970s while in California, he developed a Rolls Royce hood that fit on a Volkswagen Bug and sold it nationwide.

He also developed a unique towing trailer that could be pulled behind a car in the 1970's. Throughout his life, he always had a vision and had a strong work ethic, which he passed down to his children. Jim never met a stranger, he was always friendly and had a welcoming smile. He was the first vendor to rent out scooters and equipment at First Monday Trades Days in Canton, Texas, where he had a thriving business for years.

In fact, many people referred to him as the "Scooter Man.". He would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need. He was a handyman who could repair just about anything. If he didn't know how to fix it, he would persevere until he found a solution. His mother often told the story how he, as a child, would break gadgets at home on purpose just to be able to put them back together again!

Jim is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Betty George; daughters, Janie George, and JoAnna (Donny) Voyles; sons, Matthew Seth (Connie) George, and Brandon (Jelaine) George; stepson, Karl May; sisters, Janice (Everett) Adams, Paula (Terry) Floyd, and Jacqueline (Tim) Brown; 9 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Artist and Ruby George; daughter, Gina George; son, Geoffrey George; sister, Gerri George; and brother, Robert Smith. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Missions Department of the Woodland Hills Baptist Church, 3400 Old Jacksonville Road, Tyler, Texas 75701. A time of visitation for Jim will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2021 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., following the funeral service beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Tyler Memorial Funeral Home.

A graveside service will occur on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. at the Echols Cemetery on Jennings Mountain in Brownsboro, Texas.
