He was predeceased by: his siblings, Joey Hawthorne and Joanie Fry. He is survived by: his wife Judy Kirkland Hawthorne; his daughter Erin Stephens (Lindsay); his granddaughter Betty Mendoza (Anthony); his son Edward Hawthorne, III (Candace Campbell); his grandchildren, Hayden Hawthorne, Madison Hawthorne and Skyler Head; and his siblings, Joanna Dean, Janie Brown (Leon), Maxine Richards (Truman), Schuyler Hawthorne (Sue), Robert Hawthorne (Margaret) and Jennie Grubbs. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
