He was predeceased by: his father Vern Messner; and his grandparents, Roy, Gilma McLean, Clarence and Inga Messner.

He is survived by: his mother Cheryle Messner (McLean); his daughter Liesl; his brother Jason Messner (Angie); and his nieces and nephews, Ryan and Owen.
