She was predeceased by: her husband John N. Powell; her son Robby Powell; her parents, Ernest Matthews and Josephine Matthews; and her brother Ernest Matthews, Jr..

She is survived by: her daughters, Cheryl Richter (Donny) of Baycliff and Kathy Curless (Chuck) of Latexo; and her siblings, Bob Matthews (Kathy) of Riverside, Martha Shook of Conroe and Dorothy Baxter of Hico. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
