He was predeceased by: his wife Elvia Herrera; and his son Fermin Herrera. He is survived by: his children, Griselda Carrillo, Erika Cortez (Roberto), Esmeralda Valenzuela, Claudia De Leon, Paulino Herrera and Juan Manuel Herrera; his mother Tomasa Alvarez; and his siblings, Alicia Alvarez and Angel Alvare. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
