He was predeceased by: his parents, Marcus Eugene Bettis and Dovie King Bettis; his wife Jimmie Shoemake Bettis; his daughters, Sharon and Janice Bettis; his brother Homer Bettis; and his grandson Ben Bettis.
He is survived by: his son Gary Bettis (Pamela) of Andrews; his siblings, Charlie Bettis of Eunice and Olga Howard of Depew; and his grandchildren, Bradley Bettis and Abby Mathison. He is also survived by seventeen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
