He was predeceased by: his parents, Homer Smith and Lillie Smith (Hext); his wife Nelda; his son David Smith; and his brothers, S. L. Smith, Jack Smith and Lawrence Smith.
He is survived by: his daughter Donna Helm (Steve); his sister Jane Grumbles; and his grandchildren, Walt Smith, D'Ann Cogburn (Brandon), Kristan Duncan, Nocona Koenig (Darin), Stevie Helm (Rose) and Shane Helm (Stephanie). He is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
