He was predeceased by: his parents, John Bell Harris and Annie Grace McGowin Harris; his stepfather Logan Powell; his siblings, Ben Leaprott, Don Meadows and Dorothy "Dottie" Harris; and his grandson Levi Ivy.
He is survived by: his wife Nita Bessent Harris of Lometa; his children, John W. Harris II of Copperas Cove, Venice D'Carole Harris of Kempner, Jon-Paul Harris (Jennifer) of Lampasas, Hunter Harris (Ashly) of San Antonio, Joy Terhune (James) of Connecticut and Mark Lackey (Annelore Stroobants) of Zichem Belgium; his grandchildren, Ryan Mutter (Nikki), John W. Harris III, Nichole S. Harris, Jonathan Harris, Kadi-Ann Harris, Hylan Born, Lindsey Born, Abigail Terhune, Annabelle Terhune and William John Terhune; his great grandchildren, Ashlynn Mutter, Freya Mutter and Lily M. Mutter; and his sisters, Gloria Jean Bearce, Penny Lindsey and Darlene Rollins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to a special account set up at Cadence Bank benefiting the Lampasas High School Law Enforcement Program.
