He was predeceased by: his parents, William Denton Bates and Allynn Skeen Bates; and his wife Charlotte Gaye Sebastian. He is survived by: his children, Susan Carpenter (Ray) of Lubbock and Billy Bates (Tasha) of Lampasas; his grandchildren, Cabri Carpenter of Lubbock, Kelli Lankford (Clay) of Lubbock, Braden Bates, Corbin Bates and Wyatt Bates; his great grandchild Paxton Lankford; and his brother Richard Bates (Shirley) of Lampasas. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
