He was predeceased by: his parents, Rogelio "Roy" Vela, Sr. and Maria Ogeda Vela; his sister Carmen Gaitian; and his nephew Rosendo Gaitian. He is survived by: his wife Mary Fay of Lamesa; his children, Sabrina Luna (Sam) of Lubbock and Kevin Vela of Lamesa; and his siblings, Eloisa Contreras of Lamesa, Rita Martinez (Manuel) of Bledsoe, Elia Rendon (Benjamin) of Lamesa, Elizabeth Rodriquez (Gilbert) of New Deal, Trinee Enriquez (Ruben) of Lamesa, Rosa Torres (Frank) of Lamesa, Jesse Vela of Odessa, Joe Vela (Lupe) of Lamesa and Roy Vela, Jr. (Margarita) of Lamesa. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
