He was predeceased by: his parents, Duela Rhea Beard and Leland Sampson Beard; his sister Alda Beard Missildine; and his half-sister Patricia Beard Anderson. He is survived by: his daughters, Katherine Daniels (Jim) and Karen Truxillo (Gary); his wife Debra McDonald; his grandchildren, Rhea Thomas, Alison Osborne (Michael), Jana Bumstead (Nate), Jordan Meyer and Joseph Meyer; and his great grandchildren, Donald Thomas, Remmington Thomas, Brooks Bumstead, Duncan Osborne and Alafair Osborne.
In 1995 he was awarded the Peter Emily Service Award for his contributions to veterinary dentistry.
