He was predeceased by: his parents, Thelma Kirk and Wiley H. Kirk; his siblings, Cecil Kirk, Wiley H. Kirk, Jr. and Addie Mae Lowe; and his daughter Pamela Kirk Giangrosso.

He is survived by: his wife Nina Cowger; his sons, Kenneth Kirk (Kay) and Douglas Kirk; his sisters, Francis Bush and Patricia Kimmel; and his grandchildren, Vanessa Crosley Chauviere (Charles), Ryan Crosley (Kashi), Sasha Kirk Thompson (Tony), Elizabeth Kirk Odom (Michael), Jared Kirk (Rachel) and Jonathan Kirk (Brigitte). He is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren.
