He was predeceased by: his parents, Jose Angel Cardenas and Refugia Cardenas (Guerra); and his brother Jesus Claude Cardenas. He is survived by: his wife Theresa Cardenas (Sandoval); his daughters, Betty Jo Talamantez (Jesse) and Bertha Ann Cardenas-Lomas (Gilbert); his grandson Michael Austin Talamantez (Bryna Laree); and his siblings, Esther Saldana, Andrew "Shorty" Cardenas and Sarah Cardenas. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
