Joanna Fay Kinard Obituary
Joanna Fay (Smith) Kinard, age 72, of La Vernia, TX was called home to the Lord during the early morning of Sunday, July 28, 2024.
Joanna was born to William Marvin Smith and Pauline Leona (Owens) Turner, on July 3rd, 1952, in San Antonio, TX. Joanna was also blessed with a wonderful step-father who helped raised her as if she was his own daughter, Dale Arthur Turner. In June 1969, she married Larry Frank Kinard after only knowing him for two weeks. They celebrated 55 years of marriage in June 2024. Joanna and Larry began their family in and around the San Antonio area before settling in La Vernia, TX in 1984, where they have remained since. Together they raised two children, Brandi (Kinard) Ogden and Larry Dale Kinard.
She is survived by: Larry Kinard (husband), Brandi Ogden (daughter), Glenn Ogden (son-in-law), Christopher Tait-Ogden (grandson), Ella Smolka (sister), Patsy Costello (sister), Leon Costello (brother-in-law), Danny Smith (brother) and Marvin Smith (brother). Joanna also leaves behind her cherished nieces: Samantha Balderas, Cary Sandoval, Shannon Psencik, Michele Dellagiacoma, and nephews: John Smolka, Steve Costello, James Costello, Mark Smith, Carl Duelm and Bruce Blackwell. She also leaves behind many beloved grand-nieces/nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by: Larry Dale Kinard (son), Pauline Turner (mother), Dale Turner (step-father), William Smith (father), Barbara Duelm (sister), Vonda DeSpain (sister), Carol Smith (sister-in-law), Lucy Inez (Petty) Valenta (mother-in-law) and life-long friend, Mikey Gawlik.
While she held several jobs over the years, Joanna's passion was caring for her family and those she loved. Joanna dedicated her life to loving and supporting her family and friends. She was a care-giver by nature and enjoyed doing things for others. It was rare to find her sitting and allowing anyone to "wait" on her. That nature also gave her a passionate love for animals, but especially for dogs. She was a rescuer by heart, usually taking in the dogs that no one else wanted. She spoiled each and every one of them, ensuring they lived a life of luxury by anyone's standards. She also leaves behind her 2 beloved dogs: Stinker and Rosie.
