He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Juan Pablo and Maria Concepcion Ibarra; his children, Renato Barrera, Erica Barrera, Ludy Barrera and Rigoberto Barrera; and his brothers, Juan Barrera and Roberto Barrera. He was also cherished by his 15 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
