He is survived by: his wife Rebecca Johnston-Matthaus; his sister-in-law Betty Johnston; his nephew Jesse Sankey; his sister Waltraut Depuhl; his husband Siegried Depuhl; his children, Nicole Depuhl and Steven Depuhl; and his brothers, Eberhard Matthaus and Dieter Matthaus.
