He is survived by: his wife Tara Dakin of Krum; his children, Ashley Mendoza (Jimmy) of Denton and MacKenzie Dakin (Kayla) of Krum; his brother Richard Dakin of Paris, TN; and his granddaughter Alexis Mendoza.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be directed to ECAN Esophageal Cancer Action Network.
