He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie Mae Riley Gardner and Ellis Gardner; his wife Mary Nell Gardner; and his brother James Ellis Gardner, Jr.. He is survived by: his daughters, Elizabeth Davis (Cory) of Nolensville and Cathleen Gardner of Kountze; his grandchildren, Graham, Scarlett and Sloane Davis; and his brother Delman Gardner (Patsy) of Shreveport, Louisiana..
