He was predeceased by: his spouse Wanda Faye Smith. He is survived by: his daughter Cynthia Louise; his sister Alice Madalean Cassady of Samson; his children, Kathryn Jones (Dan Malone) of Walnut Springs, Cindy Markert (Dennis) of Dime Box and Mark (Kathy) of Corpus Christi; his grandchildren, Nathan Markert (Valerie) of College Station, Aaron Markert (Aimee) of Dime Box, Rebekah Wickel (Clayton) of Burton and Andrew Jones of Corpus Christi; his great grandchildren, Adley Markert, Avery Markert of Dime Box, Addison Markert, Kallie Markert of College Station, Hailey Wickel and Cameron Wickel of Burton; and also Mark Andrew. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Sam's name to the South Texas Botanical Gardens and Nature Center, 8545 S. Staples, Corpus Christi, TX 78413.
