He was predeceased by: his parents, Manuel Mendez and Mercedes Perez Mendez; his former wife Idalia A. Mendez; his daughter Ann Marie Mendez; and his siblings, Manuel Mendez, Jr. and Lupita Carson.
He is survived by: his wife Jackie G. Mendez of Kingsville; his children, Robert Mendez Jr. (Olga) of San Antonio, Mercedes Munoz (Robert) of Kingsville, Brenda Gutierrez (Roy) of Kingsville and Melissa Mancera (Julio) of Waco; and his stepchildren, David Ramos (Linda) of Corpus Christi, Ruben Ramos (Connie) of Austin, Rene Ramos of Bishop, Sylvia Ruiz (David) of Bishop, Corinna Lira (Tony) of Kingsville and Nadia Ramirez (David) of Bishop. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
