He was predeceased by: his parents, Jose Maria and Christina Zarate; and his siblings, Alonzo Zarate, Bernie Zarate, Jose S. Zarate and Ricardo Zarate.
He is survived by: his wife Iris N. Zarate; his children, Juan J. Zarate (Angelica), Mario Zarate, Jr. (Priscilla), Christina Zarate (Adriana Deleon), Ashley Morante (Casey) and Bernice Zarate (Gilbert Acuna); and his siblings, Juan Zarate, Victor Zarate, Diana Hunt, Corina Lee, Gladys Brandt, Elaine Brashear and Sara Santon. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews.
