He is survived by: his children, Leonires Vela, Jr. (Gloria), Jesse Vela of Bishop, TX and Marianne Lopez of San Antonio, TX; and his brothers, Domingo Vela of Kansas City, MO and John. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews.
