He was predeceased by: his parents, Francisco Najera and Amelia Najera; his children, Anna Maria Najera, Diana Najera Villarreal and Ruben Najera; and his sister Natalia Riojas.
He is survived by: his wife Rosa Ybarra Najera of Kingsville; his daughter Sonia Najera Newstead (David) of Corpus Christi; his grandsons, Frank Villarreal, Ruben Villarreal and Diego Newstead; his son-in-law Jaime Villarreal (Vicki); and his siblings, Consuelo Aguilar (Mon), Linda Peña (Laurencio), Raul Najera (Connie), Reynaldo Najera (Julie) and Homero Najera (Sofie). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
