He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Magdalena Del Bosque and Rafael Ortega; his brother Rafael Ortega Jr.; his wife Velma S. Ortega of Kingsville; his children, Rosalinda Ortega, Ashley Ortega, Eddiberto Ortega Jr., Rafael Ortega and Eric Garcia; and his siblings, Sylvia Del Bosque, Gracie Ortega, Margie Mata, Endida Mendez, Angie Ortega, Luis Ortega, Eloy Ortega, Johnny Ortega and Albert Ortega. He was also cherished by ten grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
