He was predeceased by: his parents, Cecil S. Johnston, Sr. and Wilma Mayo Johnston; his grandson Chad Tinsley; his siblings, Cecil S. Johnston, Jr., Leon Johnston, Edgar Johnston and Geraldine Cartlidge; and his stepmother Ola Mae Mayo.

He is survived by: his daughters, D'Juana Tinsley of Highland Village and Jane Johnston of Seattle, Washington; his grandchildren, Amanda Loughmiller and Braxton Tinsley (Stefanie); his great grandchildren, Tinsley Loughmiller, Landry Loughmiller and Chad Loughmiller; and his brother Don Johnston of Midlothian.
