He was predeceased by: his parents, Rayford Barnes and Atha Louise Barnes-Stover; his stepfather Nelson Stover; his son Joshua Butler; and his granddaughter Victoria Butler.

He is survived by: his wife Kimberly Jo Glidewell Barnes; his children, Angel Keating, Linda Barnes, Amanda Barnes, Danny Ray Barnes Jr., Matthew Butler, Michelle Butler Corona and Chris Barnes; and his sisters, Louise Botvin, Nell Greenhaw, Minnie Stringer and Ruby Boynton. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
