He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Diamantina Tijerina; his daughters, Dayna Pinkerton, Kathryn Nichols and Maggie Bernard; his parents, Trinidad Tijerina and Tomasa Tijerina; his siblings, Elizabeth Bustos, Mike, Peter, Felipe, Rosalinda and Joyce; and his grandchildren, Ahmiley, Roman, Emilia and Baby Conrad.

Joe loved the Lord first and foremost and carried his cross with Parkinson's with grace until the very end.
