He was predeceased by: his wife Ernestina Ruelas; his sister Guadalupe Amaya; his nieces, Angelica Salas and Laura Vasquez; and his great-nephew Eduardo Lalo Salas.

He is survived by: his siblings, Angelina Ruelas, Juana Ruelas, Rocio Ruelas, Francisco Pancho Ruelas and Ricardo Ruelas; and his children, Crystal Bongato (Alfred), Joel John Ruelas and Angel Ruelas.
