He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest H. Smith and Madonna E. Smith (Powers); and his brother Kent Smith (Joan Beatrice Smith). He is survived by: his wife Joan Beatrice McBride; his children, Maura Carlisle (John), Todd Smith (Vicki) and Lynn Caplinger (James T.); his siblings, Leonard Smith, Kathryn Elicker (William) and Marie Lellis; his grandchildren, Sarah, Elizabeth Carlisle, Alexander and Courtney Caplinger; and his stepgranddaughters, Joni Mooneyham, Julie Harner and Katy Freeman. He is also survived by seven step great grandchildren.
