He was predeceased by: his parents, James Elbert "Ike" and Rena B. Jackson Tinney; his sisters, Peggy Welch, Noel Tinney and Virginia Blakney; his wife JoAnn Fondren Tinney; and his daughters, Melanie Ellis and Lora Vela.
He is survived by: his siblings, Phyllis Peden, Rena B. Sue, James Tinney, Glen Tinney and Tommy Tinney; his sons, John E. Tinney, Jr. and Ralph Tinney; and his grandchildren, Charley Ellis, Nathen Ellis, Wendy Ellis, Joel, Ben and Ollie Vela.
