He was predeceased by: his parents, John Harold Nelson and Esther Radcliffe Nelson. He is survived by: his wife Josephine Ellen Lillehei; his children, John Michael Nelson (Jacquelyn) and Suzanne Staner Koyle (Patrick); his grandchildren, James Richard Nelson (Ally Hyatt), Amy Elizabeth Nelson, Alyssa Ellen Staner, John Matthew Staner, Robert Tyler Staner and Abigail Grace Koyle; his great grandchildren, Rowan Hyatt-Nelson and Edie Hyatt-Nelson; and his sister Virginia Schoenwald. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and many lifelong friends.
