He was predeceased by: his parents, Jose M. Chavez Sr. and Julia Chavez (Ursua); and his siblings, Antonio Chavez, Juan Chavez, Andres Chavez, Rosa Chavez and Alice Zuñiga.
He is survived by: his wife Josephine Chavez (Olguin) of Lubbock; his sons, David Chavez of Lubbock and Abel Joe Chavez (Alma) of Lubbock; his granddaughters, Meaghan T. Chavez, Hannah A. Chavez, Aiyanah J. Chavez and Emma Jo Chavez; and his siblings, Christina Gonzales, Steve Chavez, Raymond Chavez, Ruben Chavez and Guadalupe Chavez. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
