He was predeceased by: his parents, Claude Atkins and Alma Atkins; and his daughter Linda Wingfield. He is survived by: his sons, James Atkins of Rocky Mount, SC and Robert L. Atkins, Jr. of Jasper. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren.
