He was predeceased by: his son James P. Hunter, IV (Jay). He is survived by: his wife Elaine of Lufkin; his children, Jennifer Hunter Walz of Houston and Wyland Lee Hunter (Andrea Hale) of Galveston; his sister Sharon Metcalf McDonald of Houston; his grandsons, Hunter and Harrison Walz of Houston; his niece Ashley Reeves of Houston; his brother-in-law Zeagler of Lufkin; and his grandsons, J. Patrick Doherty, Joe Max Green, Jim Kingham, Vince Whitaker, John Bateman, Thomas Metcalf, Will Lee, Ken Smith, David Hill, Charles Fredrick and Jack Martin.
