It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gerald Ray Thurman of Jacksonville, Texas, who passed away on February 1, 2025, at the age of 99, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his wife Dolores Virginia Thurman; his parents, Lela Mae Johnson and John Preston Thurman; his wife Margaret Thomas Thurman; his son Cecil Lawrence; his siblings, Miller Thurman (Jean), Douglas Thurman (Naomi), Nadine Wheeler (Tommy), Johnnie Helen Rae and Mary Ann Stennett (Rodell); his grandsons, Allen Lawrence and Tim Hartis; his nephew Steve Stennett; and his niece Jill Turrentine.

He is survived by: his children, Ray (Janet Thurman), A. B. (Beth Lawrence) and Terry; his son-in-law Ronny Lindsey; and his grandchildren, Jeremy Lawrence (Lynette), Lyle Smith (Imelda), Vince Lawrence (Laurie), Brandon Kimble, Monica White (Tommy), Brayden LeBlanc, Lana Lawrence, Jody Lawrence and Tim Thomas. He is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a few great great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Friday, February 7th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the First Methodist Church (1031 TX-456 Loop, Jacksonville, TX 75766). A funeral service was held on Friday, February 7th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
