He was predeceased by: his parents, George Douglas and Sarah Etta Cain (Ashcraft). He is survived by: his wife Paula Cain of Ivanhoe, TX; his son Twister Cain (Tessa) of Gonzales, TX; and his grandson True Cain.

Elton's most significant contribution to rodeo was the Junior World Team roping that Paula and Elton took over in 1990-2017.
