He was predeceased by: his parents, John Lee and Ludie Jane Cockerham (Patman); his wife Mary Van Cockerham (Wyatt); and his siblings, Hettie (Mayo Grantham), Marvin and Raymond Cockerham.
He is survived by: his close friend Glenda Walker; his children, Kay Hubbard (Jay), Mike Cockerham (Sherry), Mark Cockerham (Lorna) and Robert Cockerham (Donna); his stepchildren, Sharron Watson, Donald Ward (Ruth), Chad Walker, Patrick Gaddes (Kyla) and Jonathan Gaddes (Helen); his brother Truman Cockerham (Theresa); and his sister-in-law Hortensia Cockerham. He is also survived by twenty-one grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
