He was predeceased by: his parents, Crete Woodruff Burns of Virginia and Ray Burns; his former wife Teresa Joan; his brother Charles Burns; and his half-siblings, Sherman Ray Burns (Pete) of Cecil Burns, T. L. and Leta Fay Tout.

He is survived by: his former wife Teresa Gordon; his wife Tammy Burns; his stepsons, William and Braidyn Shine of Waxahachie; and his siblings, Doris Severson of Holland, Shirley Peel, Sherry Bennett of Waxahachie, Burnie Burns of Waxahachie and Chapple Burns of Temple. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
