He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Judy Lynne South; and his parents, Bernard "Barney" Eugene South and Mary Marjorie "Marj" Knapp.
David was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2014 after his family noticed his increasingly forgetful behavior.
