He was predeceased by: his parents, James R. Benes and Vena Cunningham Benes; his grandparents, Joseph, Mary Benes, Dick and Bessie Cunningham; and his sister Janet E. Eudy.

He is survived by: his sisters, Joyce E. Hicks, Judy J. Fowler (Scotty G. Fowler) and Joan M. Watkins; his niece Mary Mazetis (Chris); and his nephew Daniel Hicks Jr. (Anita) of Maryland.
