He was predeceased by: his parents, Herb Smallwood and Lona Smallwood. He is survived by: his wife Ellen; his children, Jacob (Crissy) and Sarah Guthrie (Roman Guthrie); his grandchildren, Lucy Smallwood, Charlotte Smallwood, Rhett Guthrie, Rebel Guthrie and Reagan Guthrie; and his sister Cathy Loucks (Buck Loucks).

In lieu of flowers the Smallwood family has requested donations be made to the the Alzheimer's Association: The Alzheimer's Association is a not-for-profit organization under Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
