He is survived by: his wife Linda Silcio Shafer; his children, Rachel Shafer Simmons (Rick Simmons), Tiffany Shafer Hill (James Hill) and Nathan Lee Shafer (Jessica Shafer); his grandchildren, Avery Simmons, Zoe Mills (Eric Mills), Ethan Williamson, Blake Williamson, Linley Williamson, Gavin Shafer, Haley Shafer, Cason Shafer and Linley Matlock; his mother Hazel Cobb Shafer; his brother Kenneth Shafer (Naida Shafer); his cousins, Melinda Overstreet and Sammy Welch; his nieces, DeShawn Sawyer and Codie Taylor; and his great-nephew Sterling Sawyer.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to Shriners Hospital.
