It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Nettie Bates of Hughes Springs, Texas, who passed away on October 2, 2021, at the age of 75, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, C. R. Burgen and Winona Burgen; her sisters, Ithema Burgen, Martha Turner, Winnie Sutton and Loretta Brown; her daughter Terri Blackburn; her grandson Chadd Blackburn; and her sister-in-law Mildred Burgen.
She is survived by: her sons, Kenneth L. Pollard of Hughes Springs, TX and Donald Wayne McClung of Livingston, TX; her husband Roy "Doc" Hawthorn of Hughes Springs, TX; and her brothers, Darrell Burgen of Norman, AR and Bruce Burgen of Flowery Branch, GA. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
