Services for Margaret Marie Goins, 78, formerly of Hughes Springs, will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Reeder-Davis Chapel. Burial will follow at Sardis Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation beginning at 12:00 noon, Saturday and lasting until service time.
Margaret Marie Goins was born on October 20, 1943 in Port Lavaca, Texas at the end of the Great Depression and the creation of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. She was born to Hazel Marie Levingston and Leroy Joseph Mayne.
Margaret was just fifteen years of age when she married her first husband, Benny McKnight in 1958. They had two beautiful daughters, Tammy Sue and Terri Ann. They owned and operated a piano shop for a few years before Benny passed. Margaret met and later married Charles "Chuck" Goins. They traveled here and there before settling down in Hughes Springs with the emus and the chickens. After Charlie passed, it wasn't long before she moved to Tarkington to be closer to her eldest daughter Tammy and her grandchildren. She lived there for years until it was time for her next great adventure. She then moved to Victoria, TX to be nearer to old friends, her brother, Hank and sister-in-law Jeanie.
Margaret enjoyed church and attending the Opry with her close friend George and his lovely daughters. You could say she loved "God and country music" like the song from one of her favorite artists, George Strait. Margaret had been staying with her eldest grandson Kevin Kirkland while waiting on her forever home. Unfortunately, she was taken all too soon from us on February 22, 2022.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, Hazel and Leroy Mayne, brother Leroy "Hank" Mayne; first husband, Benny McKnight; second husband, Charles "Chuck" Goins; daughters, Tammy Sue Cleveland and Terri Ann Kirkland.
Margaret was a beautiful wildflower, no stranger to loss, and yet always smiling, dancing, and singing her way through it all. Margaret is survived by her sister-in-law Jeanie Mayne; nephews, Donald Mayne and Scott Mayne; niece, Lesley Jones; grandchildren, Kevin Kirkland, William Kirkland, Jason Kirkland, Brandon Childress and his wife Samantha Childress; great-grandchildren, Trey and Madison Kirkland, and Brentley Childress. Her family will always remember listening to old records, dancing in the living room to the old country, and the best goulash and fruit salad in the world. She will be greatly missed but always remembered in the fondest and dearest of memories.
