He was predeceased by: his parents, Courtney Stokes Sr. and Tiny Galloway Stokes; and his sister Betty J. Lee. He is survived by: his siblings, Clyde Stokes Sr., Courtney Stokes Jr., Annie Mae Stokes, Louise Stokes Foat and Blanche Stokes Rounds; his wife Gussie M. Stokes; his children, Lawrence E Stokes Jr. (Cherita Stokes) of Dallas, Karen Barnes (Albert Barnes) of Dallas and Lorina Stokes-Carter (David Carter) of Dallas, Texas.; his grandchildren, Lawrence E. Stokes III of Hughes Springs, Brandon Barnes of Dallas and LaBrittanii Barnes of Dallas, Texas.; his great grandchildren, David Carter Jr., Lawren Carter and David Davis III; and his sister Mildred Stokes of Memphis. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews.
