He was predeceased by: his parents, George Raymond and Ruth Traylor Russell; and his brothers, James Earl "Toby" Russell and Ralph Russell. He is survived by: his wife Donna Jo Russell; his children, Rusty Russell (Kelli), Randy Russell (Debra), Jay T. Russell (Karen) and David Russell (Robin); his grandchildren, Robin Alexander, Whitney McFarland (Jordan), John Russell (Katy), Megan Koonce (John), Ryan Marshall (Hannah Pollock), Kristina Wilbanks (Jerry), Kayla Wilson (Greg) and Kassie Kimble (Josh); and his uncle Wayne Russell. He is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.
