She was predeceased by: her father Loyd Powell Sr.. She is survived by: her mother Mary Lee Powell of Austin, Texas; her significant other Rodney Thomas of Pearland, Texas; her siblings, Sheila McKinney of Austin, Texas, Edna Childs of Pflugerville, Texas and Loyd Powell, Jr. of Austin, Texas; her pet Chloe; her nephews, Willie McKinney IV and Jeremy Raymond-Watson; her niece Elizabeth Childs; her great-nephew Willie McKinney V; her great-niece Skylar Watson; and her aunt Dorothy Brown of Tacoma, Washington. She is also survived by cousins and friends.

At the time of her passing Lakisha was employed at Gateway Foundation/Corrections as a counselor/therapist for young at-risk males.
