She is survived by: her husband Thomas M. Byrnes; her children, Thomas C. Byrnes (Leslie Chen), Katherine E. McQuilling (James A. McQuilling II) and Kirsten A. Byrnes; her grandchild Thomas A. McQuilling III; and her children, Barbara Byrnes, Anne (Kevin Giblin), Patrick (Nancy Byrnes), Brigid Byrnes and Meghan (Rex Sebazco).

Visitation was held on Friday, October 4th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Bradshaw-Carter Memorial & Funeral Services (1734 W Alabama St, Houston, TX 77098). A requiem service was held on Saturday, October 5th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the St. Anne Catholic Church (2140 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77098). A graveside service was held on Saturday, October 5th 2024 at 2:30 PM at the Glenwood Cemetery (2525 Washington Ave, Houston, TX 77007). A reception was held on Saturday, October 5th 2024 from 3:30 PM to 8:30 PM at 3410 Montrose Blvd, Houston, TX 77006.

Memorial donations may be made in Karen P. Byrnes' name to The Fresh Air Fund and Tunnel To Towers Foundation.
