He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Baker and Loreda Wilburn Baker; his siblings, Charlene Brooks, Rutha Brown and Adeline Baker; and his nieces and nephews, Carl Baker, Gerald Wayne Brown, Shelly Brown and Teresa Singleton.

He is survived by: his wife Delores Black Baker; his siblings, Wilma Baker, Eugene Baker (Marcia) of Winter Haven and Alfred Baker (Ida); his sister-in-law Carolyn W. Baker; and his children, Andre and Sherita Wright.

Visitation was held on Thursday, January 9th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Church Without Walls (5725 Queenston Blvd, Houston, TX 77084). A funeral service was held on Thursday, January 9th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location. A committal service was held on Thursday, January 9th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at the Paradise Funeral Home & Cemetery North (10401 W Montgomery Rd, Houston, TX 77088).

In 1947, his family moved to Houston, Texas, seeking a brighter future, a journey that would pave the way for his extraordinary contributions to education, athletics, and community service.
