He was predeceased by: his parents, Douglas Yates and Girty Yates; and his siblings, Leola Adams, Ann Yates-Jordan, Guy Yates, Harold Yates and Samuel Yates.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Louise Yates; his children, Alisa Yates Boutte and Walter Yates Jr.; his adoptive son Calvin Rice Sr.; and his siblings, Lee Otis Yates (Inez), David Yates (Carolyn) and Gwen Ray (Ron). He is also survived by eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and great friends.
